Description
Potential Employers, I am writing to give you a little more insight into my background. As I have found in hiring a staff, sometimes a resume does not give you all the information you need. My wife and I have moved to the Cookeville, TN area to be closer to our kids, grand kids and aging parents. I have been a successful college football coach for over 30+ years, but with this move I have put family ahead of coaching. I want to give you as much information about my past to help in your search for that special candidate/employer for your company. I have always been in a highly competitive and driven environment. I was a High School three sport star athlete (football, basketball, and track) that went on to attend college on a football scholarship. I say all of this, so you might understand that I have been competing daily to be the best and to be a winner for a long time. As a major college football coach, I have been in a pressure cooker environment to produce for over 30+ years. As an offensive coordinator/quarterback coach the daily film study, weekly game planning, daily practice schedule, recruiting meetings, recruiting calls and sales/management meetings were always very goal oriented and success driven. However, the most intense and goal driven part of each week was sitting in the press box on Saturdays, calling plays in front of 35,000 to 100,000 fans in a jam packed energized stadium knowing that every decision I made and every offensive play I called would affect the outcome of the game. Basically, every player, every coach, every fan, your alumni, your hometown, your University community and your entire State was depending on you to make their team and university a winner. As a Head High School Football Coach and Assistant Athletic Director, I was in charge of hiring, molding, and leading a staff of 25. As the Head Football Coach, I raised over $100,000 each year for our players, our coaches and our fans to be able to have a first class program. As a major college football recruiter, you are in sales each and every day. You had to build friendship, respect and trust with coaches, administrators, parents and top prospects year round. Our sales/recruiting would involve a lot of travel all over the country looking for the best players we could find for our program. Hard work is not a problem, daily and weekly travel is not a problem, building relationships is not a problem, sales and recruiting are not a problem, being in a goal oriented and driven market is not a problem. Thanks again for your help and I look forward to speaking with you. John Shannon
