In addition to providing direction and supervision of the dental programs and to teach in selected courses, I was a full member of the college administrative team. I was responsible for monitoring the progress of about 90 dental auxiliary students and for advising hundreds of prospective students. Prepared and administered a budget of $490,361 for the 1995-96 academic year. I evaluated and projected needs for capital expense, equipment needs, supplies and materials utilization, and staffing requirements. Negotiated with the administrative staff and attempted to keep budget increases within the general level of inflation. Supervised and evaluated seven full time faculty, seven part time faculty, and one office manager. Evaluated faculty every two years using methods of a teaching dossier that they collected, classroom visits and direct observation of teaching methods, and student opinion surveys to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses and plans for faculty development. The office manager was evaluated annually for performance on specified criteria for use in salary determination and promotion. The evaluations were designed to improve staff performance towards department goals and to identify staff development activities.
