ACCOMPLISHMENTS Instrumental in turnaround of Westchester Health Care Corporation. Workers' compensation reserves were $45M+ with loss potential of $258M. Created infrastructure for a dedicated Workers' Compensation unit. Developed best practices including a third party administrator and legal team overseeing medical component of claim management. Within 9 months reduced incurred costs by $3M and held stable over subsequent nine years. Identified untapped reimbursement, receiving $3.5M annual recovery, projected to total $40M-$50M. The third Party Administrators for Westchester Health Care had failed to follow-up on reimbursements. Identified, pursued and received partial and full concessions from the State on 33 claims. Improved budget variance from 40-50% over budget to less than 1%. Developed methodology for accurate financial budget calculations based on state law, claims frequency and severity and healthcare industry. Mitigated costs with proactive programs, maintaining low variance and contributing to lowering Excess Insurance Premium. Spearheaded and implemented Safe Patient Handling program, reducing employee injury 97% in 12 months. Proposed state-of-the-art program to make the medical center a safe choice for employees and patients. Persuaded CEO and CFO to adopt program. State subsequently mandated Safe Patient Handling programs. Instituted an Injury-on-duty Process, resulting in 75% reduction in injury costs. Employees were incurring costs by going to the ER or personal physicians instead of going through occupational health. Recognized need to train clinician gatekeepers on injury reporting. Prevailed in establishing new program over union resistance. Increased successful outcomes in workers' compensation cases 47%, mitigating losses. Fortified relationship with Workers' Compensation attorneys, implementing weekly conference calls discussing strategy and action plan on claims. Prepared medical questions to assist attorneys in obtaining crucial information at hearings/trials. Implemented aggressive occupational health strategies and wellness programs. Engaged staff members in programs including: flu vaccine program with 93% compliance in 2013 improving healthy annual assessment evaluations that had poor 20-year history, improving compliance from <23% to 92-94% establishing a 100% tobacco free campus and preventing TB conversion with program that improved compliance from 21% to 93%.
