Accomplishments
Highlights:
• Created the first ergonomics program at the UCLA Medical Center that showed success in the first year by decreasing injury rates by 50% within targeted departments, and again decreased injury rates by 50% in the 2nd year. • Created a pharmaceutical waste program, identified waste streams and how they should be handled, based on the new DHS Medical Waste Regulations, which is considered a best practice by Regulatory Agencies throughout the United States. • Created the first back safety program at the UCLA Medical Center, which implemented cutting edge back safety strategies. This program aggressively pursued the decrease in back injuries of all hospital employees, with a special emphasis on the nursing population. This includes the implementation of a hospital wide lift team, which has decreased back injury rates in nursing by 2/3 in 1st year. • At Panda Restaurant Group, decreased burns, cuts, and wrist injuries by 15% in 1st year. • Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee for the City of Long Beach Environmental Health Food Program which implemented improvements that focus on increasing effectiveness and efficiency in the food program. • Created, implemented and maintains the Emergency Management/Disaster Preparedness program for the City of Long Beach, Environmental Health Department. • Created and implemented the hospital Emergency Spill Response Team; Obtained HAZWOPER trainer certification, Provided HAZWOPER training to team. • Created and chaired the 1st companywide safety committee at Panda Restaurant Group. • Evaluated alternatives for sterilization processes and created/implemented the use of a new product that sterilized as efficiently as glutaraldehyde, was less toxic and could be neutralized. This eliminated disposal costs, which was a significant cost savings. • Created the first food safety program at USC that maintained a continuous A rating in all of its food facilities. • Develop, maintain and implement a General Safety and Hazard Communication / Chemical Safety training program. • Conduct training sessions in HAZCOM, PPE, Respiratory Protection/Fit Testing, HAZWOPER. • Supervise staff: Evaluate and document work performance of Safety Technical Staff annually.
