RssDarned Good Salesman

My career goal/objective is put very simply, TO MAKE MONEY. Making money for my employer, makes money for me. Making it ethically and honestly is important too. Selling since shortly after leaving high school, the most important rule I've learned is that no matter what we do, or think we do, everybody sells. Every time we interact with any other person, for any reason, a sale is made. Somebody sells and somebody buys every time. Understanding this is the primary, possibly the most important, qualification for any salesperson in closing sales. I cut my teeth on straight commission sales right out of high school, selling 'Rainbow,' vacuum cleaners, then moving on to heating & air, insulation, solar water heating, Encyclopedia Britannica, working part-time, in the evening and on Saturdays, while holding a full-time job and going to college (Fine Arts Major) part-time. These jobs are a crash course in selling, where you live or die strictly on your ability to close a sale in one call. The cardinal rule is there's no such thing as a be-back, meaning no second chances. To sharpen my sales skills, I also invest substantial amounts of time and money in attending classes, and seminars, buying books and tapes, studying new sales techniques, and using what I learned. As Ben Franklin said: "An investment in knowledge pays the best interest."
