COVER LETTER: Dear Toby: In today's modern computer and electronics age, it is important for the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) to have a strong visible presence on social networking sites like YouTube and Facebook. The Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy (SMMC) was pleased to match Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky's Discretionary Grant award to help produce your WebTours video segments. WebTours showcases the recreational opportunities available to everyone in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. Many of these opportunities are for little or no cost, and are right in our own backyard. Your videos have managed to capture the special nature and qualities of each park location. Twenty-four short video segments have now been produced for a "links page" on our LAMountains.com website, highlighting park features and facilities. WebTours can help promote, and hopefully bolster, parkland visitorship, and create greater public support for future land acquisitions. With over 69,000 acres of protected parkland surrounding Los Angeles, it is vital that the MRCA work with the SMMC, Conejo Recreation and Parks District, and Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District, to support the continuation of your WebTours video segments, which I believe can help to inform and promote the largest urban national park in America.
