Description
SUMMARY My thirty-three years of experience in aerospace has resulted in expertise with a proven track record in design and design integration throughout the complete program development of various flight and non-flight systems. My analytical skill development began on the Space Shuttle Ground Support System and increased in proficiency from the continued design work on various tactical systems and electro-optic programs. These experiences led to a lead role in the design integration of the Global Positioning System (GPS) IIF program through which enabled the advancement of skills in configuration layout, proposal work, managing cost accounts, working directly with suppliers and applying lean+ strategies. Works well with others and is dedicated to providing a quality product to the customer on time and within cost. This is the type of work environment where my interests lay, either commercial or military programs. Provided mechanical design support for proprietary project utilizing CAD (Anvil 5000). Prepared and presented design layouts for review as well as detail drawings for fabrication. Assisted in the establishment of a new CAD system, Integration and Test (AIT) department for all mechanical and electro-mechanical interfaces during entire assembly and testing of all 12 satellites in the fleet. All vehicles delivered on time/early, ten currently on orbit. Managed supplier interfaces to a successful space vehicle design with no major anomalies. Successfully conducted program level design reviews both internally and with customer which included Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Final Design Review (FDR) presentations. Managed new business Special Studies Proposals and the execution of the existing engineering cost and schedules resulting in two proposals being bid and the work performed on schedule. Lead integration designer for Bus and Payload unit layout incorporating thermal, stress, shock, mass properties and EMI requirements. Provided wire harnesses and RF coaxial cable layouts. Checked and approved release and maintenance of all top assembly drawings, secondary structure drawings and wire harness assembly installation drawings. Design Engineering lead for team which provided a program cost reduction by using supplier to integrate wire harness assemblies into structure. Includes numerous Technical Interface Meetings (TIM), on site visits/inspections and dispositioning discrepancies. Control Account Manager (CAM) for the Configuration Design Group and Payload Adapter Assembly (PLA). Tasks included monitoring cost ($13.6M) and schedule for in-house and suppliers, reporting earned value, preparing variance reports and successfully completing several customer audits. Extensive experience working with the Master Change Record (MCR) process to present changes to the Engineering Control Board (ECB) for drawing and specification release. Teamed with Thermal Engineering to create a Lean+ project to replace temperature sensor with non-removable temperature sensors for thermal testing, resulting in a $140K savings. Proposal Manager for the GPSIIF Payload Adapter (PLA), teamed with Contracts, Pricing, Engineering and Manufacturing to prepare cost estimate ($50M) for customer. The bid was accepted and the work performed on schedule and within cost. * Additional Accomplishments Extended Range Intercept Technology (ERINT) - Responsible mechanical design engineer for the transmitter housing. Prepared detail drawings and successfully tested and documented the performance of an absolute pressure valve. Provided CAD support for extensive gimbal changes and upgrades. Designed and coordinated the fabrication of various items for Electro-optic developments programs Multiple Target Acquisition System (MTAS) - Designed several aspects of the gimbal assembly as well as prepared detail and assembly drawings utilizing a CAD system. Coordinated with engineering shop on manufacturing hardware. Hybrid Detector Bonding Evaluation - Coordinated the successful assembly and delivery of a hybrid detector using a new and efficient flip chip bonding method. Prepared drawings specifications purchasing requests and final report. Laser Radar Systems - Designed components to house optics for a laser radar system. Prepared drawings purchasing requests and coordinated with machine shop and outside vendors
