Description
I am looking for a position utilizing my supply chain experience and education. Having a drive for making process improvements is essential for this field. There are people that want to go to work and do things the way they were taught not wanting to improve the way they perform their duties because “if it isn’t broke don’t fix it”, I am not one of those people and have had success making businesses more efficient and profitable because of my drive. I am a focused person that is self motivated and enjoys a challenge. Using Lean tools along with common sense every business can make consistent improvements to make them more profitable, safer, and a more enjoyable place to work. My previous positions did not have Supply Chain background required but it has been useful in every almost every task, project, job duty that I performed. When I started my college career like most students what I thought I was going to get my education in was not what I ended up being interested in. I started with marketing and then moved onto accounting because I found that I enjoyed quantitative analysis. Accounting turn out to be too one dimensional for me, I knew I would get bored. After a change in policy I needed a prerequisite class to move on with my marketing major so I had an open spot in my schedule for another class. This was when I came upon Supply Chain Management and I was hooked. I took an intro to SCOM class and it was a light bulb moment. I enjoyed marketing but this class showed me something that would directly impact operations using analysis. At the same time I was working for Fastenal doing my internship. My job duties put me on the production floor of a heavy truck manufacturer. This is where I discovered that I truly enjoy working with production to improve processes and handle issues. Plus I am a total nerd when it comes to production processes. Learning how raw materials transform to finished products is very interesting to me. During my time with Fastenal I was on a production floor for four years and then spent one year doing outside sales visiting a wide array of businesses from machine shops to a wax blending facility. This was a great experience were I had the opportunity to see the inner workings of many businesses from state of the art to the a couple guys in a dark and dirty pole shed with a couple machines. At this point I started at Neenah Foundry and was ready to jump into a manufacturing environment and make a difference. My duties there involved managing outside service suppliers and purchasing stock and non stock commodities. This was also my introduction to the corporate role in supporting operations and sales. It was an eye opening experience the importance of communication between departments. I discovered this is the essence of Supply Chain Management. To properly manage a supply chain communication is the key to eliminating waste and increasing efficiency. It is the source of data to analyze and measure so that fact based decisions can be made. My time as an Operations Manager at Alliance Metals Group taught me the importance of a team environment and how to bring people together to work towards a common goal. Everyone needs to know the direction that the business is going in so they can work together effectively. Overall I feel that I will be an asset to your organization because I have been blessed with a career path that exposed me to a great mix of experiences that helped me grow into the person that I am today. Please consider me for this position and I hope to hear from you. Thank you for your time John Johnson
