CollapseDescription

I am a physician assistant student graduating in December 2015 from East Carolina University. My extensive medical training has prepared me in multiple ways. Not only has my prior background, including over 1300 hours of hands-on clinical work experience, equipped me with the interpersonal qualities that are crucial for healthcare, but my rotations throughout my clinical year have also instilled in me the knowledge of many procedures, diagnoses, and treatments in various areas of healthcare. On my dermatology rotation, I not only assisted in diagnosing and treating various skin conditions, but I also practiced valuable skills, including shave biopsies, punch biopsies, excisional biopsies, cryosurgery, suturing, and use of high frequency desiccator. On my neurosurgery rotation, I had the opportunity to assist as well as work independently on several brain and spinal surgeries, including suturing, stapling, forming burr holes, using bipolar probes, and placing titanium plates. I had further opportunities for practicing these surgical skills throughout my general surgery rotation. I have managed extensive medication lists, placed and managed various laboratory orders, performed well-child and new born exams, completed intramuscular/intradermal injections, assisted in wound care, bite wounds, and incision and drainages, and succeeded with many more procedural undertakings throughout my pediatric, geriatric, and family medicine rotations. I have assisted in vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, and completed numerous speculum, bimanual, and breast exams on my OBGYN rotation. I was able to diagnose and treat psychiatric and suicidal patients both in office and at home visits on my behavioral medicine rotation. I have become extremely proficient in obtaining a patient history and physical exam throughout each individual rotation. My ability to thrive in a team environment has flourished throughout my experience working alongside other students and medical professionals. In addition, I am ACLS and CPR certified.
