Architect / Facilities Manager
I have a Bachelor Degree in Environmental Design and Architecture from the University of Kansas (1984 & 1985 respectively) with minor studies in Economic Development. I am a licensed architect in Missouri and (A-7112) Nebraska (A-3450). I am also NCARB certified and have been associated with the International Facilities Management Association since 1991. An overall profile includes the following: • An entrepreneurial attitude about the relationship between architecture, construction and facility management. • Unique ability to “see the forest for the trees” from a management perspective. • Over 22 years architectural experience (17 as registered professional). • Over 18 years’ facility management/consulting experience, both corporate and non profit. • Has developed specialized expertise in correctional detention center facility design and management. • Long relationship with the resource rich International Facility Management Association (IFMA). • Construction / project administration for a portfolio of assigned properties. • Majority of career was spent in a multi-discipline, A/E environment. • Considerable IDC (Indefinite Delivery Contract) / On-call design experience. • Extensive construction administration / observation activities. • Enterprise-wide disaster recovery / business continuation planning & implementation management experience. • Extensive field work experience - domestic and international. • Significant business / client development and marketing experience. • Federal Experience involving extensive experience in: DOD work - including BRAC work, space utilization, planning design and criteria development utilizing AFR's; DOE; FFA and TSA guidelines. • Significant experience in adaptive reuse and renovation as well as new construction. • Extensive experience coordinating high tech equipment into the design/building process. As much as I enjoy the design aspect of my profession as an architect, I have always been drawn to the construction/project administration and facilities management side where I use my overall skills set which has been developed as an architect (big picture view, shop drawing review – QA/QC-, value engineering, product research, analysis, strategic planning, budgeting, logistics, facility audits, client interaction, contractor’s perspective, etc.). When reviewing my Resume and Project Experience Summary, one will see that I have developed a rather unique and non-mainstream base of experience in the field of architecture. In an addition to the above mentioned, please note the following: • Registered architect - State of Missouri and Nebraska (saved Fortis Benefits over $200k in consulting fees over five years as Facility Manager). • Consultant to a web-based facility management software provider for development of CAFM functionality and reporting. • Performing facility audits and assessments (including a pro-bono multi-discipline facility assessment for City Union Mission sponsored by KCIFMA - 2012). • Strategic/ master planning in response to changing organizational needs. • Engaging stakeholders and owners as part of an integrated project team. • Selection and procurement of furnishings, finishes and ergonomic equipment to address specific needs. • Enterprise-wide responsibility for business impact, disaster recovery and business continuation planning and implementation. • The Menninger Leadership Center: Personal & Interpersonal Dimensions of Leadership (Oct. 1998). Studies included Dynamics of Leadership, Leadership style and motivational patters, Conflict Style and Negotiating Relationships.
