Fire Battalion Chief/Emergency management

Served as the point person for the El Paso Fire Department managing the administration of the Emergency Management Program for the City of El Paso and surrounding counties (up to and including Culberson County), to ensure the prevention, protection, response, and recovery from natural or man-made disasters, and/or mass casualties from terrorist attacks.  Worked in conjunction with surrounding local judges, the El Paso Police Department, El Paso Sheriff’s Office, Red Cross, volunteer fire department personnel, utility companies, federal officials, and other government entities to coordinate resources in the event of a major emergency or disaster.  Managed the development and implementation of plans for the protection of the community to minimize the effects of disasters, and designed and directed local emergency exercises and mass casualty drills.  Coordinated the activities of surrounding counties, local agencies, hospitals, and resources during disasters, coordinated requests for assistance and provided information to the state and federal agencies during disaster operations; ensured all appropriate resources for equipment was available to meet all program objectives.  Coordinated with city and county department heads in the Emergency Operation Center and ensured all responsibilities for disasters were established; implemented emergency notification service to contact individuals, and provided vital information/instructions during a city wide emergency or disaster; compiled and submitted reports required by the state and federal agencies.  Provided civilian team training and activated teams within the community to assist in managing neighborhood emergency related systems.
