I have thirty years of critical care nursing experience starting with Medical-Surgical Telemetry and progressing to combined ICU/CCU areas. My experience includes nursing preceptorships, clinical instructor/educator for various nursing programs in universities, and as Clinical Nurse Specialist in coronary care, intensive care, cardiovascular care and progressive care units. I have led mock JCAHO surveys, have led mock “Code Blues” to give nursing staff more experience with the crash cart and potential scenarios for rapid responses that could lead to code situations, coordinated nursing staff clinical orientations, have had leadership responsibilities in performance improvement projects in critical lab reporting, medication reconciliation, and patient safety issues such as inpatient falls. I have assessed and facilitated nursing staff completions for clinical competencies, and have developed nursing discharge instructions to meet CMS core measures for CHF, AMI, and CAP. Examples of the classes I have taught in the past include Nursing Fundamentals with Skills Labs, Anatomy and Physiology, Basic Arrhythmias, and Critical Care Courses.
