Working in Healthcare has been my passion, but with all of the changes occurring I feel as if my clinical and business skills may be best when merged together. I am looking to grow with a company as I am a loyal employee and feel as if my skills are not being used to their full potential.

Medical Assistant

About Me

Industry:

Healthcare & Medical

Occupation:

Medical Assistant

Highlights:

I started at my family practice clinic after being hired on after a four week internship. After about a year or so I realized I was capable of much more and enrolled at Arizona State University. My son was about nine months when I started working full time at my clinic and about a year and a half when I began my bachelors degree at ASU. I finished my Bachelors of Science in three (vs. four) years while working full time at my practice. I was pre-med for about two years, but changed my major when the healthcare reform changes became to take effect (e.g.- the average program to become a DO is $300,000 but the average family practice physician makes $75,00-90,000 per year). I obtained a BS in Social and Behavioral Sciences from ASU with a GPA of 3.07. I also graduated with many additional science credits (including physics, chemistry, and anatomy and physiology). By obtaining my BS vs. BA I was required to take many more additional credits in subjects such as statistics.

Major Responsibilities

I have been working with my current family practice for over six years and feel as I am at a stand still. I see patients for two physicians, manage all of their incoming calls/tasks (also all tasks that cannot be done while the patient is in office), order supplies/ take inventory, manage accounts payable (including negotiations regarding past due invoices), maintaining relationships with other professional members of the community (physicians, pharmaceutical representatives, etc.), hiring/firing of staff, disciplining and training staff, making decisions on behalf of the president of the practice, implementing procedures to increase revenue, preparing and conducting audits with government facilities, and many other things. I am also the main point of contact for our EMR/EPMcompany (NextGent) our tech company (ISD), and run most of our programs as an administrator.
