CollapseDescription

To Whom It May Concern: I am seeking a leadership position in an organizational development and/or training department in a learning organization that is committed to excellence in learning, ongoing practical application and advocates a culture of employee engagement and talent management. My first “gig” as a trainer was as an 8 year-old in 3rd grade. I was a good reader and finished early. My teacher, Miss Stavros, enlisted my help for other students who were slower readers. My first paid job was as a 16 year-old teaching horseback riding lessons (my sport as a youth was showing Arabian horses). I have always gravitated towards training roles in organizations and my experience and success has led me to become an expert at passionately engaging participants in audiences of all sizes as well as in a one on one coaching environment. I began my career at University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics in 2001 and worked as a registration system and customer service trainer for seven years. Since 2009, I have helped create the Organizational Development team and Leader Academy (Certificate and Pin program for leadership development) while facilitating various workshops as a certified trainer to create an accountable culture which has contributed to a Top Ten Quality ranking in the past four years, foster change (a major transition to Paid Time Off (PTO), support the organization in creating safety to speak up along with skills to promote candid and respectful dialogue as we have been implementing LEAN for the past two years to successfully embrace of healthcare reform in the United States. I managed the trainers who were certified facilitators for the major workshops including “Crucial Conversations,” “Influencer,” “The Accountability Experience,” “The Color Code,” “Leading Through Change,” and “Strengths Finder” in maintaining consistency in quality delivery, scheduling, accountability in post-workshop implementation and designing and delivering intact-team, abbreviated workshops to staff in collaboration with their leaders who successfully participated in the full-length versions. Then foundation of my expertise in developing successful leadership skills is: 1) Develop and demonstrate personally accountable relationships. 2) Maximize your “mistakes” (No finger-pointing, guilt or blame; learn the lesson and choose different action next time 3) Create improved results by learning the lesson/Maximizing Your Mistakes! Since February of 2009, I have increased my ability to assist leaders and organizations to empower themselves to create results through improved facilitation with application exercises and ongoing coaching to ensure internalization of concepts and behaviors, improves performance and maximizes the return on investment (ROI) made by organizations and leaders. My leadership development and performance management skills have been practiced and perfected since 2007 as I have managed a high-end, Zen-Chic, Switch Salon, one the premier salons in Salt Lake City, Utah. Our 2014 focus in providing exceptional customer experiences has been inspired by Steve Jobs and his quote, “Make the small things unforgettable.” I would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you and discuss how my innovative and positive, coaching approach to leadership, teamwork and customer service and how I can be a valuable to asset to EMC. I look forward to hearing from you and setting up an interview. Sincerely, Derek Sleater Cook Mobile) 801.647.7465 DerekSleaterCook@gmail.com
