To: Human Resource From: Mitch Posey Subject: Construction Technology Position Dear Sir, I would like to introduce myself and express my interest in the position advertised at your school. I graduated from Oregon State University in Industrial Technology and accepted a teaching position in Alaska upon graduation. I taught a variety of subjects while in Alaska i.e. cabinet making, drafting and design, welding and sheet metal fabrication. I also have Mig, and Tig welding certification from R & S Welding Professionals in Oregon. In addition to the subjects listed, I took several machining, foundry and drafting courses while enrolled at Oregon State University. I left Alaska in 1989 and began working for the Federal Government in a correctional / law enforcement setting teaching construction technology for approximately 10 years. I was hired to develop, organize and teach a comprehensive construction program in an adult education setting. I was in charge of developing a 600 page construction/drafting curriculum and was later able to acquire college accreditation for this award wining program. In this program I taught residential and commercial construction techniques, estimating and construction business management. I have also been fortunate to have taught and operated a commercial horticulture program and produced and sold product to ACE Hardware in La Grande and Baker Oregon. This position was working in youth corrections through IMESD / Oregon Youth Authority. In addition to my vocational background, I have taught full time ABE and GED courses to adults. In 2000 I started my own custom home building business and owned and managed that business for 10 years. I was in charge of all aspects of a high end custom home building business. I explained and customized contracts, scheduled contractors, ordered materials established a quality control system and solved problems on a daily basis. I have since re-entered the teaching profession and enjoy it very much. In addition to my teaching experience, I have coached boys and girls basketball at many varsity levels for 15 years and have managed to win numerous titles and have had many successes with around an 80% winning percentage. I have always had the ability to be able to communicate with young people and earn their respect and at the same time create a productive relationship and educational environment based on honesty and trust.
