Work Experiences
7/1990 - Present
(private)Manager
- - 19 + years of experience in Point of Sales(POS) application development, implementation, integration, and support - Recent POS implementation experience as a project manager with a POS system based in Windows XP® - Strong project management skills and characteristics for effective Personnel management, Time Management, Scope Management, Cost Management, and Risk Management, combining to form a record of projects completed on time and within budget. ________________________________________ WORK EXPERIENCE Project Manager 08/1990 - Present Gilbarco/Veeder-Root Greensboro, NC I have been in my current position of project manager since 2001. This position requires all of the following skills: I have been in my current position of project manager since 2001. Highlights of this position are - Managing software development teams of up to 18 members. - The software is for a POS system widely used in the petroleum industry - External customers are major oil companies and independent petroleum marketers - Project teams consist of development, quality assurance, and product support located in North America, South America, and Asia - Daily management of project team and tracking of tasks - Daily updates of project plan and weekly updates to management - Extensive interaction with external customers - Work Breakdown Structure creation - Project schedule creation using Microsoft Project® - Support for field trials, including proactive communication with field sites as well as tracking of help desk calls. - Support for production released software, including assisting product support with tracking issues, and determining root cause. One recent project involved the following: - Scope - prototype a system featuring communication between our pos software and the payment network of a major oil company, via third party hardware. - Time Constraints -This project had strict time constraints due to a small window of opportunity to market the prototype software. - Customs requirement – These made it impossible to ship the third party hardware to our remote locations in a timeframe that would meet the needs of the project. - Mitigation plan - I helped to produce a plan where the remote locations would connect to a local PC in our U.S. office. This PC would connect to the third party hardware and then to the payment network. - The mitigation plan allowed the project to be complete in the time frame required and meet marketing goals for sales of the system. We also maintained the budget originally created for the project. Another project illustrates the ability to work with external customer to produce a win-win scenario: - I moved into the project management position on a fixed price completion project after development was well under way. - Review of project scope uncovered a requirement that could not be met with our current architecture. - Implementing this requirement would require major changes to the software which would put us well over budget and beyond the promised delivery date. - I was able to negotiate with the customer and produce a plan that allowed them to work within our architecture but still meet their requirements. - The project completed on time, within budget, and satisfied the customer. Prior to working as a project manager, I worked for several years as a development. The requirements of that position included: - Design of software to be implemented by me and other team members - Deliver accurate estimates for effort required for the implementation. - Reviewing work completed by other team members. - Success was measured by meeting promised dates while delivering software of high quality. The position in which I worked prior to development lead and the one for which I was hired was software developer. This position required design and implementation of software code.
