Description
From: Lucinda Post, Ed.D. Subject: Employment Consideration Date: July 30, 2013 .During my tenure with the Philadelphia School District, I advanced from classroom teaching to the School District of Philadelphia’s Central Office, where my primary responsibilities included parent engagement and development and oversight of the District’s efforts on behalf of homeless and at risk youth. Through a collaborative agreement, I was assigned to work with Drexel University as the Director of its Center for the Prevention of School Violence. That position, from May 2001 through July 2005, afforded me the opportunity to build a network of support for families and students and a strong partnership between Drexel and Temple University, parents, teachers, students and the School District. My work included partnering with school administrators, teachers, community members and service organizations to create and support school based safety planning, parent engagement and education, innovative curriculum and after school programs. Accomplishments include coordinating Parent Resource Fairs, obtaining program funds of 1.5 million dollars per year, launching a beacon and several afterschool prevention programs, and supervising a staff of eight full time and 30 part-time employees, providing service to over 400 youth and their parents or caretakers. I accepted a position of Executive Director for Prevention Programs, (2007-2009) managing a beacon and afterschool prevention programs. Several staff acquired degrees, parents engaged with the programs as both volunteers and employees, an active and engaged Youth Council was developed and several students successfully completed school and enrolled in college. I consider my leadership style to be culturally sensitive and inclusive as evidenced by a strong parent and community provider network. I am committed to an asset based approach to community engagement and embrace a philosophy that seeks to develop and sustain youth and adult leadership and social capital, as a means, to inspire and sustain community change. I believe a successful effort must engage constituents in a purposeful manner, harnessing community input in the design, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive initiatives. Authentic inclusion of youth and neighborhood residents, as well as schools, civic, faith based and social service agencies is critical to significant community transformation. Community engagement must ultimately demonstrate results if it is to be sustained. Ultimately, changing the life trajectories of our youth by ensuring that they receive the continuum of quality services critical to their entering school ready to learn, and that they are successful academically and socially, is the outcome to which we aspire and by which we should be measured. Achieving that outcome requires impacting not just on school environment, but on the broader community by enlisting multiple stakeholders to work collaboratively to create a web of sustainable and meaningful supports for children and their families. I am looking for a position that would afford me an opportunity to maintain my commitment to disenfranchised communities, focus on a continuum of services that support children from birth to graduation and beyond. My more than 20 years of experience in the field of education, extended day learning, parent engagement, collaboration and community engagement attest to my ability to balance competing demands and manage complex relationships. The ideal position would offer the prospect of working in a focused and intentional manner to improve child well being outcomes and school success, by strengthening families and community, and by engaging diverse stakeholders with a myriad outreach, collaborative and volunteer opportunities. I’ve attached my resume for your consideration. Sincerely, Lucinda E. Post, Ed.D
