Knowledge is considered power in today’s society. Personally, I now strive to grow stronger by learning more about God, gaining more knowledge, and wisely applying knowledge in the applicable setting of the public school system. Nearly 29 years of US military and government experience has prepared my transition from the corporate world to the field of education. To assist in this transition, I have incorporated the current educational philosophies of essentialism--teacher-centered learning where lecturing is performed in a structured manner; pereniallism--similar to essentialism but incorporates classic works into teacher-centered learning; progressivism—teacher provides group-centered work among students in providing and obtaining information; reconstructionism—involves teacher providing students a problem that they evaluate and determine how to best implement within society; and existentialism—where students guide their own learning and the teacher serves as a counselor or facilitator only. My personal teaching method and philosophy incorporates all of these educational philosophies in some form or fashion as I seek to reach young adults/adults at their level, yet encouraging them to raise personal levels of understanding and comprehension. My personal educational philosophy and style of instruction incorporates all five educational philosophies, I feel my strength of imparting knowledge will be based on the Whole-Part-Whole Learning (WPW) Model based on the idea of mental scaffolding where new ideology will be introduced based on the individual's previously learned ideas and knowledge. This expands student comprehension and their knowledge base to the eager reception of new material. This will be implemented through the use of advance organizers. It takes the primary process in learning, subsumption, in which new material is related to relevant ideas in the existing cognitive structure on a substantive, non-verbatim basis(http://tip.psychology.org/ausubel.html).
