SUMMARY * Managed the Coke Plant Laboratory, ensuring quality production, EPA regulatory compliance, safety, and customer satisfaction through: - Coke Oven Gas Analysis - analyzing gas hydrocarbon content - Light Oil Sampling - primarily testing for benzene - Desulphurization Treatment Plants - testing and treating wastewater before discharge into river - Coal / Gas Analysis - meeting customer specifications, resulting in zero fines * Wrote Sinter Plant Operations Program using SAS, establishing specifications and processes to ensure quality in rework materials for all steel-making processes, including speed and quantity of ore and coke braize required. * Wrote Cost of Quality program using SAS. The program was done by finding known process indicators through regression and ANOVA analysis in SAS and then using these indicators to track quality costs and then tabulate into a cost per ton of hot metal in SAS. * Also worked on handling all material and heat balances for sinter plant. Resume of: Charles J. Draus, Jr. Page 4 Also handled part of environmental for sinter plant. This entailed handling scale from rolling mill that might have oil mixed in from leaks on mill. This can cause a blue plume which can be traced using an opacity meter. * Facilitated the installation of the gas blanketing system to reduce and recycle benzene emissions at our Coke Plant, contributing to the reduction of (11) chemical's emissions, reaching 85% reduction in 1995. The forecasted goal was 50%. Introduced an Automated Coke Sampler, improving safety and achieving more representative sampling in a (24) hour turn producing fewer blast furnace deviations, and improving the overall quality. * Monitored the process for unloading barges, and instituted safety procedures requiring safety vests, achieving "0" injuries for a span of (5) years. * Conducted weekly QS-9000 audits, and notified plant and department managers of problems in Coke Plants, Blast Furnace, and Steelmaking areas, improving quality and safety. * Also certified as an internal auditor for the company.
