Microbiology Strain development

I have a traditional microbiology background and extensive experience in the area of strain discovery, strain selection, and strain improvement. Examples of positions that may qualify me for openings at your company include the following. • I worked as a consultant/bench microbiologist at the WPI Gateway campus in Worcester MA and Qteros in Marlborough MA.; within the BioProcessing Department under the directorship of Dr. Alex DiIorio. My position was that of a subcontractor for EdenIQ. At Qteros I worked within the strain development group under the direction of Sara Iverson. At WPI our roll was to isolate from the environment microbes with the ability to degrade cellulolytic material. We concentrated on T. reesei and Aspergillus niger as the 2 best organisms to move forward and worked on improving cellulolytic digesting enzymes expression using UV and chemical mutagenesis methods. At Qteros I worked on strain improvement of an anaerobic bacteria species Clostridium phytofermentans. • At Tufts New England Medical Center I worked with anaerobic microorganisms using anaerobic chambers, anaerobic jars, and bench top N2 gas flow conditions utilizing GLC methods of volatile fatty acids to identify organisms to the species level. • I’ve had extensive bioreactor experience. • Through out my career I’ve been involved with strain and media development to enhance the production of enzymes or secondary metabolites utilizing classical approach of strain selection, media development and UV/chemical mutagenesis.
