Family Nurse Practitioner
Professional & Career Objectives As a licensed nurse practitioner, my professional objective is to provide excellence in patient-centered care across the life span. My particular interest area is adult/internal medicine with specialized focus on pain management, addictions prevention and treatment, and mental health disparities in the primary care setting. Having had a number of years of professional experience in the acute care setting, as well as home health, hospice and addictions/psych nursing, I bring critical thinking for patient’s integrated healthcare needs to the practice. Well over a decade of combined ICU/telemetry and non-invasive cardiology has prepared me for prevention and treatment of acute and chronic conditions, while my experience in psychiatric, chemical dependency and home health/hospice care keeps a balanced perspective to include the mind, body and spiritual needs of patients. My current FNP core curriculum practicum of 660 clinical hours has included internal medicine, pediatrics, and OB/gyn. That, along with my recent agency experience of pediatrics and ICU/med-surg, brings me well-rounded, up-to-date knowledge in these areas. Having graduated cum laude at the baccalaureate level in 2004 from Mennonite College of Nursing (MCN), the path was paved for me to enter the master’s level program. My preparation includes coursework in the areas of nursing theory, advanced pathophysiology, pharmacotherapeutics, epidemiology, diagnostic reasoning, advanced health assessment, research roles, and legal/ethical issues. With the MCN student pass rates for the NCLEX and FNP certification exams consistently exceeding state and national averages, and the cumulative pass rate on the FNP certification exam at 99%, excellence in my educational preparation has been established. My anticipated graduation and nurse practitioner certification is Spring 2012. I seek win-win results for all involved, from patient-centered care and satisfaction, to cost-effectiveness within evidence-based practice. As we look to the future and towards health care reform, I anticipate being a proactive member of a quality practice.
