Career Objects: • Upholds the Policies & Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities & applicable state, federal & local laws • Sorts laboratory slips to determine order in which patients will have blood drawn & the amount to be drawn to satisfy test note on laboratory slips. • Performs venipuncture & skin puncture to obtain blood samples for diagnostic testing purposes. • Labels samples & transmits to Laboratory or Laboratory Technologist as required following special instructions to include refrigeration or centrifugion of sample. • Uses robot properly • Performs trouble shooting if robot malfunctions • Assists Laboratory Technologist w/ routine tests; may include pouring, numbering & centrifuging urine samples, culturing, staining bacteriological specimens, etc. • Aids in instructing RNs & other personnel in venipuncture, skin puncture as required. • Fills courier baskets w/ laboratory samples, receives & empties courier baskets & distributes to required work areas as required. • Processes & scans all specimens for pick-up by couriers. • Centrifuges & organizes specimens for Chemistry. • Hematology & Coagulation departments. • Establishes & maintains courteous, cooperative relations w/ the public, patients & other personnel • Performs other duties as required, including receiving patients, checking laboratory slips for completeness, giving preparation instruction to patients, assisting physician w/ b1 marrow aspirations, assisting pathologists w/ post mortem examinations following routine procedures as required, inventorying & ordering supplies as needed • Responsible for knowing the KPDS & LMS computer system for accessing patient orders, results, & other pertinent patient care data. • Must perform complete accessioning & delete all order not drawn. • Promotes, ensures, & improves customer service to internal/external customers by demonstrating skills which are consistent w/ the organization's philosophy of providing extraordinary customer relations & quality service • Assume other activities & responsibilities from time to time as directed .
