Experienced Editor and Writer

I’m seeking an editing position. I have 20 years of varied substantive and copy editing experience in the software industry; I was assistant editor and office assistant at a local trade publisher for two years; I co-edited an award-winning national literary journal from 1986 to 2008. My associated writing experience includes technical, fiction, nonfiction, and poetry (of which I’ve published three books with small presses). In my Microsoft software documentation and interface positions, the user experience has always been my top editorial concern. Clarity, concision, accuracy, and friendly tone have been paramount. I’ve worked in partnership with a wide range of other roles, including localization teams, designers, usability researchers, developers, and program managers, in addition to teams of other writers and editors. My experience as both a writer and editor has served me well in being able to bridge the gap between these often adversarial roles. I am well accustomed to, if not actually thriving on, multiple projects and deadlines, as well as quick turnarounds, and am thoroughly grounded in both print and online projects, for various levels of audience, from the home user to IT and developer. I have been instrumental in developing and maintaining style guides (including the widely used standard, Microsoft Manual of Style for Technical Publications [MSTP].
