May 23, 2011 To whom it may concern: When one reads a resume, a certain amount of consistency may be expected; certainly, a bachelor degree in English with a computer science minor seems a strange combination. However, this can also be interpreted as a diverse skill set, ranging from the ability to design and code web pages to the capability of writing proficiently and professionally. Indeed, diversity is the keyword. As a student, I have had an eclectic variety of interests, including anthropology, physical and biological (not to mention computer) science, mathematics, and literature. Although my true passion is writing, I enjoy computer programming and am proficient in three major object-oriented languages: C++, Java, and Python. I am also knowledgeable in HTML, XML, and am learning SQL and COBOL programming. Besides my computer skills, I have had experience working in the Oklahoma Baptist University library, the Mabee Learning Center, as assistant to government documents and periodicals librarian, Vernell Ward. I have also worked as a grader and research assistant for Dr. Andrew Armond, associate professor of English at OBU. Both positions, along with my senior thesis project fortified my skill as researcher and future academic, as I became familiar with the SUDOC and Dewey Decimal modes of classification. Also at Oklahoma Baptist University, I worked as a tutor at the Student Success Center under Professor Monica Mullins, assisting students on subjects ranging from biology to history, to economics and especially, literature and essay writing while strengthening my leadership skills. At times, I helped entire classes prepare for exams in large, group study sessions, essentially teaching Western Civilization, the universally required history and literature Liberal Arts component, to up to fifty very different students at a time. In conclusion, I will bring to any business an unusual, useful range of knowledge and a diverse, powerful set of skills. Thank you for the consideration. Sincerely, Joshua Daniel Lynch
