Beginning with my first position after earning my BSN I have pursued opportunities to develop education skills and knowledge with the ultimate goal of teaching nursing in the college setting full time. Though I have not yet worked full-time in college-based nursing education, I have led clinicals for four colleges and co-taught another clinical as a teaching assistant in graduate school and have been a preceptor for BSN-completion students. Within less than two years after earning my BSN, I was precepting new staff in a very high acuity Surgical ICU and led the unit-based Education Committee as we developed continuing education opportunities for the unit staff. I am now ready and eager to pursue my long-time goal of teaching college-based nursing education full-time. I believe that education is a vital key to the “health of healthcare” and relish the opportunity to influence the future of healthcare from the frontline of nursing education.
