RssTV Anchor-5 years experience-International Brodcast Bureau/Voice Of America, TV Producer, Video Editor-5years

I believe that my diverse professional experience (over 10 years of relevant work experience) and educational background (a Masters Degree in International Relations) are very relevant for the advertised position and make me a strong candidate for it. This is a position that matches perfectly two main areas of my professional and personal interest: communications/mass media and international affairs/development. Last five years I was employed by the International Broadcasting Bureau (IBB, Voice of America/Armenian Service) based in Washington, DC as an International Broadcaster and Leading TV News anchor. I joined the VOA in 2004 through a competitive examination process, finishing at the top of the long list of applicants and managed to quickly become one of the core team members. VOA was undergoing a major transformation from radio to TV broadcasting, and I became a beneficiary of the change process, as I had to perform multiple tasks (journalist, producer, video-, audio- and web-editor) and pass through multiple rounds of various professional trainings. Among my main responsibilities/accomplishments: prepared and broadcasted the Daily News Review and the weekly program; conducted numerous interviews with high ranking officials and internationally renowned experts (among interviewees - Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld, Millennium Challenge Corporation CEO Danilovich, several US Congressmen and Ambassadors, Presidents of Armenia and Turkey, Prime Ministers of Armenia and Georgia, members of cabinet, several high-ranking World Bank and IMF officials, others); anchored live the inauguration ceremony of Presidents Bush and Obama from the US Capitol; moderated panel discussion on the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) in the US Senate (at the personal request of the MCC CEO Amb. Danilovich); led live coverage of the signing ceremony of MCC-Armenia Compact from the US State Department (moderated by Secretary of State Rice). In addition, I attended and covered a number of international and national events (conferences, seminars) at various governmental, research (Washington-based think-tanks) and international venues (including being an accredited journalist the World Bank-IMF Annual Meetings in Washington). I was also responsible for regular (daily) content updates of the VOA website (including analysis and summary of major events), maintained instant contact with colleagues from many major media outlets (local and international) and communications staff from various agencies (including the World Bank); organized press conferences, briefings for senior officials (including coaching for appearances on TV) and moderated video-conferences (as part of the TV programming). I also coached and mentored new staff, consultants and interns on various aspects of professional activities. Prior to work at the VOA, I worked at the Library of Congress and the Armenian Assembly of America, a US-grassroots advocacy and public relations organization, dedicated to representing Armenian-American interests to the US public and policy-making community. My pre-US work experience includes teaching (history and international relations); education administration; civil service (attaché, Ministry of Foreign Affairs); corporate sector and development/international organizations (CARE, UN WFP and OSCE missions in Armenia). A more detailed list of my duties and responsibilities could be found in the attached CV. In sum, I believe that I do meet the announced criteria and main requirements for this position – in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in the field of communications and public affairs, strong professional and personal interest in matters related to international development; involvement in and knowledge of international trends and political-economic issues; ability to operate effectively in a complex environment of large organizations, both as a team leader and a team member; strong skills in developing and maintaining working relations with clients and colleagues; and knowledge of one or more foreign languages (Russian, Armenian). I sincerely hope that the selection committee will seriously consider my application.
