Description
As a communications expert with over 20 years experience as a journalist and communications advisor in television, radio and the internet I have acquired the knowledge, and experience ¨in situ¨ as well as a strong commitment to help those most vulnerable. This requires a determined effort to craft an in-depth strategic communications plan working closely with government organizations, non-government organizations, businesses, non-profits, and journalists across all communications media. Through progressively increasing levels of responsibility I have obtained the knowledge of the specific language to be used in the contexts where United Nations needs to deliver messages whether they are political, diplomatic or human rights issues. The education I received by the United Nations High Commissioner Office for Human Rights and my role as a journalist in the Peace Process between the Colombian Government and the Illegal armed group Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia (AUC) serve as a prime examples. This effort developed me both professionally and personally forging my ability to make editorial decisions, to manage personnel, and to stand up for life principals in front of criminals and my supervisors as well. Being selected by the United Nations High Commissioner Office on Human Rights, to travel to Geneva as an active participant in the Seminar "Implementation of Human Rights Treaty Bodies Recommendations at the National Level” allowed me to understand first hand the function of the United Nations Mandates, Treaty Bodies and its missions around the world. I know the profound effect accurate and insightful reporting can have on the perceptions of political leaders and influence of the general public. I have developed the capabilities to analyze the unforeseen tendencies and deliver insightful messages on topics such as displacement, hunger, exploitation of women and children, and ethnic violence. My experience has shown me the value of being able to communicate clearly, concisely and accurately in conducting information operations. Working in my native country of Colombia, with one of the highest number of UN Agencies present in country, coupled with my over seven years of work experience in Washington D.C., has enhanced my ability to manage public information. I have acquired the leadership, judgment, and organizational skills in the field of communications to conceptualize, design, and implement a communications campaign across all media spectrum.
