In my last position as a Parts Release analyst, I immediately noticed others in my group had lower level skills in excel. I then volunteered to test and de-bug a new automated excel program for tree charting part uses. I found several issues and worked with the developer to get them resolved or find work-arounds. I also volunteered to manage a large one time project change matrix which had over 7000 rows and 30 columns of part information and data. By adding various columns and formulas to the huge excel matrix we had been given, I was able to weed out duplicate information, add sort buttons to classify the various part types affected, and assign each analyst to their own parts. I also added status columns to track percentage complete for each analyst and overall totals, to identify status of parts with outstanding issues. This allowed sorts and personalized printouts so each analyst could have their own familier parts to work on and easily see where they had left off, it allowed for a more organized and succint plan to complete the project. Our group not only exceeded our 3 month completion target by several weeks, but my formatting process was copied and used successfully by other groups as their programs were targeted for the change. |
