RssPurtsuit of Happy Employment

I've been trying on jobs for years and I'm ready to find a career. Wikipedia lists this in its entry regarding careers: Career is a term defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as an individual's "course or progress through life (or a distinct portion of life)". It is usually considered to pertain to remunerative work (and sometimes also formal education). I think both Wikipedia and the Oxford English Dictionary are lacking an integral component in their definitions. I don't think you truly have a career until you find something you love. Otherwise, you just have a job. Hopefully, that job at least has good benefits, and paid sick days because there are going to be those days when you just can't bear to go in whether or not you're really sick. I am hoping to find a career- something I love to do, something I can't wait to leave the house for, something I miss when I have to call in sick, something that I love so much that I don't mind leaving my son in daycare. I think that's important, and I think that's possible. I'm running my first marathon in two weeks and the training process has taught me that an active life is a happy life. I love my husband, my son, and am close with my parents and siblings. I think one of the best things in life is drinking a cold beer in the shade on a hot day with all of the people I've mentioned already. I hope to find long-term, gainful employment that builds a rapport of mutual respect, challenges me to set goals that are attainable, involves creating something I'm proud of, and makes me feel like I'm living my life, not missing it. I hope to feel like my life starts when I wake up, not when I get home from work. I hope to find a career.
