As a veteran editor and reporter who managed a staff of 60 journalists for 20 years, I would be a good fit for this position. My leadership challenges as editor for Suburban News Publications included everything from evaluating and directing editorial coverage, maintaining our connection to our readers (both in content direction and public relations functions including public speaking and serving as the company's tour guide), overseeing special projects including editorial content for advertising sections and strategic planning for new products, overseeing the weekly production of 21 newspapers, hiring and training staff members and virtually all other HR functions (discipline, firing, evaluations, etc.). SNP grew from eight to 21 newspapers under my editorial department leadership. As a seasoned editor, columnist and reporter for the Columbus Dispatch, The Other Paper and Suburban News, I am excited by the opportunity to work for the Time Warner. The job of Public Affairs Manager is a terrific fit for me: I have a tremendous set of journalism and communication skills and 20 years of leadership experience. As the former manager of Suburban News’ 60-plus member editorial staff and a member of SNP’s management team I was active in planning and coordinating the company’s outreach and community programs as the company grew from eight newspapers to 21 newspapers. I developed and implemented programs and initiatives that promoted and increased awareness of SNP as a brand along with its local community message. In essence, product improvement and attention to quality were our fund-raising strategy: a better product meant better advertising sales. As part of the management team, I was a regular participant on feedback regarding community concerns and issues, and was in weekly contact with local residents, and government and school officials. In addition, I frequently served as the company’s spokesman, whether as a public speaker or tour guide. In short, the duties of your position connect strongly to my past experience.
