• As the custodian of all District Funds, I was determined to increase the number of banks participating in competitive bidding (eleven) for Certificates of Deposits which maximized the rate of return for the District. The employer realized its greatest interest revenue total in its history during 2007-2008 with over $1.7 million. • Due to faulty computer programming, many teachers’ salary deductions for Federal and State taxes were miscalculated and I was called upon to take corrective action to resolve these matters on an individual basis. As a result of my analysis, I was able to bring order to an already difficult situation and, working with other IT personnel, was able to implement specific process changes to prevent the problem from happening again. • My intervention with the Internal Revenue Service saved the District several thousands due to late payments. • By implementing an on-line data transfer process, I was able to expedite the filing of Federal and State returns for employment taxes, saving the District time and money in the form of postage. • By closely monitoring expenditures for textbooks, library material, and computer software and hardware, I was able to ensure that the maximum amount of aid was realized in the following year. I successfully created an accounting solution in two instances when the District was short of its targeted expenditure total. • By building and developing a file for reporting the Status of Funds, I was able to provide the Board of Education a complete picture of the District’s financial position for all funds. This report also satisfied all reporting requirements established by New York State and was an improvement of the previous reporting tools with its increased flexibility and readability. |
