About Me

Industry:

Management & Business

Occupation:

Manager

Highlights:

I have been the chief HR manager in 6 progressively larger manufacturing facilities from 200 employees to 3200 for three different companies. Significant accomplishments in these positions include a successful startup of a facility, a total integration of management and systems in an acquisition, installation of comprehensive wage training programs that in one case reduced turnover from over 75% to less than 10%, maintaining union free status, and implementing first level supervisory training where little had existed. I have also had company wide HR responsibility for over 15 separate manufacturing facilities, both union and non-union. Significant accomplishments in this role include installing the first ever Total Quality programs in all facilities, successful implementation of team based management styles to replace traditional manufacturing management hierarchy, successfully negotiating union contracts to include wage pattern breaking in Texas City, and successfully negotiating and implementing a gain sharing system with the Teamsters in Trenton Michigan. A key skill for a successful HR Manager is to have excellent consultative skills because rarely do they have position power to influence line managers. I have had the opportunity to demonstrate expertise and develop critical relationships with line managers from Shop Foremen to Manufacturing VPs. Some of my accomplishments that I attribute to this skill are listed above but others include successful guidance of a management through a class action suit, countless discipline cases, recruiting the right managers to fill critical positions, installing gain sharing where the concept was totally foreign, successful coaching of numerous line managers that in one case ended in the individual rising from an obscure supervisory position to a Manufacturing VP and designing and implementing a total process change of the management development system which more closely tied performance to compensation, used 360 degree feedback, and integrated the development process. - I have a BS in Industrial Relations from the University of North Carolina. I have completed extensive development courses in strategic planning and development, reengineering, project management, team development, team leadership and organizational change to name a few. I have also designed and instructed over 30 management courses and been guest speaker/lecturer at colleges and for professional groups As a member of the Reengineering team for Monsanto Corporation I had the opportunity to lead the company wide process improvement efforts in project management where we demonstrated a $15M annual improvement, the maintenance redesign effort where our efforts in preventive maintenance alone topped $30M, accounts payable and receivable where cash flow improvements exceeded targets by 100%, HR where we were able to reduce hiring cycle times by as much as 4 weeks, tie HR planning to the long range manufacturing plan, implement employee transaction centers, and install employee development centers to allow employees to take charge of their own development. Following this effort at Monsanto, I started my own consulting business where I have had the opportunity to successfully lead process improvement teams in project engineering, manufacturing, sales finance, HR, product development, process integration in an acquisition and long range planning at the executive level. I have a very high level of expertise in the overall change management process from identification of the opportunity to the successful implementation of the solution and measurement of the results.
