Work Experiences

1/2008 - 12/2008

Cranesbill Books

Manager

  • In January of 2008, I was hired as General Manager of Cranesbill Books, a full service independent bookstore, which will close soon due to the ill health of its owner. I oversee the operation of all departments, employees, and the daily operation of the store. The policies and practices which I have instituted, such as the editing of inventory, streamlining of staff, and the establishment of a regular book return system have increased our profits such that Cranesbill Books is now a thriving and popular local bookstore, despite the struggling economy.

Motawi Tileworks

Manager

  • As the head of this department, I was charged with ensuring that the tile produced reached the level of excellence set forth by the owners, and that, having achieved that goal, shipping deadlines were met. Communication between departments, analysis of all aspects of manufacturing, management of staff, and problem solving were all integrated into this position. The consistent production of a high quality hand-made product was the result.

AmberSource

Self-Employed

  • I was the sole proprietor and sole designer for this venture. I imported amber, fossils, and other materials from Lithuania, Russia, and the Dominican Republic, and from these materials I carved sculptures, prepared specimens, and constructed jewelry. The finished products were exhibited at various shows, galleries, and most successfully, at academic symposia. As sole proprietor, I was responsible for the operation of the business in its entirety.
