Job mainly consists of putting number codes, ICD-9 & some CPT codes on hospital stays,emergency room & outpatient clinic visits as well doing the same on lab & x-ray reports & physician nursing home visits. Highlights:

I have had almost 18 years experience in ICD-9 & CPT coding. I also have been the assistant director of medical records. Also this job involves many other daily functions and the ability to operate most computer programs, do surveys,check charts & records for missing items or errors & I have worked a bit in a few other departments when needed. I participate in our Hospital health fair each year to get the community out & aware of health issues & new products & services available to them along with free lab testing for that day. I collect door prize donation from the local businesses to help the community with the incentive of free gifts while learning. I participate in local charitable organizations such as the American Hart association, breast cancer awareness,food for families & my personal favorite is sending toys at Christmas to native american children on the poorer reservations such as the Souix children of South Dakota.

Basically I do all of our hospital & clinic medical coding. This consists er visits, labs, x-rays, outpatient visits, home visits,hospital stays & the physician's visits to the nearby nursing homes. We also have several other smaller clinics in the nearby communities which I am also responsible for. When there is some spare time in my day I also will file paperwork in the patients charts, answer requests for medical records from other doctors, insurance companies, disability etc. There are also patients charts that need delivered to the physician & phones to be answered. Most of the time this particular position keeps me busy with just the coding , as I am the sole coder for this facility. There is another who can fill in with some of the duties when I am ill or on vacation. I worked my way up to this position from a filer and have been doing this job for 17 years now at this facility.Also at least once a year I get students from the local community college who are learning to be a coder & work with them to assist in their learning process.
