CollapseDescription

Dear Sir / Dear Madam: If you are looking for a seasoned, disciplined, and solutions-focused production manager, specializing in facilities and capital equipment maintenance, please accept the enclosed resume in application for a maintenance engineering management or project engineer opportunity. What sets me apart is my tenacity and endurance. I don’t like to fail and just keep working at a problem or challenge until I succeed in finding a solution. My organization, team building, training and leadership skills are as equally strong as my expertise in: Preventive / Predictive / Routine Maintenance Programming Project Management and Project Engineering Multi-million-dollar Capital & Maintenance Budgeting Benchmarking / Best Practice Identification & Implementation / Key Performance Indicator Development Large, Multi-disciplined Team Leadership & Development Capital Project Design & Implementation Continuous Process Improvement Programs As a solutions-driven manufacturing engineer, I have led high-quality production operations in the petrochemical sector, transitioned a primarily reactive maintenance organization into a proactive unit, and have pursued world-class maintenance status using several key performance indicators to measure our progress. In fact, I was asked to develop and present a Maintenance Excellence PowerPoint presentation for a newly acquired company. This 8-hour presentation became the foundation for the company’s complete turn around of their organization to a more proactive footing and was later used for additional acquisitions as an example of how to build and manage an effective maintenance organization. I can bring to your manufacturing operation a tremendous amount of energy and proven management expertise. Extensive manufacturing and production management experience combined with top-flight employee motivation and training skills would enable me to assume a position with your organization easily. Time management ability, effective communication skills, and the capacity to build and lead cohesive teams are some of the skills I use to produce consistent results for my past employers. My salary requirements are realistic and make me an excellent value for your company. I look forward to your call. Very truly yours, Roger Berry

Primary job titles and select accomplishments: MAINTENANCE ENGINEER Directed mechanics and identified, initiated, estimated, designed, purchased material, and supervised installation of numerous upgrade and replace projects. Successfully executed start-up of 3 serial number 1-process units, troubleshooting and overcoming a series of metallurgical, rotating and stationary equipment, and chemical process problems. Performed mechanical debugging of each process to improve production output. Prime player in $3MM debottlenecking project that bolstered production from 6MM pounds to over 17MM pounds over a 3-year period. Initiated yearly turnaround and inspection program for each operating unit. MAINTENANCE ENGINEERING MANAGER Managed 2 direct maintenance engineering reports and approximately 25 indirect reports. Instrumental to process design, mechanical design, construction inspection, and mechanical start-up of a $110MM new process unit. Worked in-house with contract-engineering firm for approximately 2 years to achieve very smooth and quick start-up of this very complex chemical processing unit. Member of team assigned to perform process safety hazard analysis (HAZOP). Instrumental in creating quality assurance program to follow and inspect all construction-related activities on site. Developed quality assurance manual and procedures, providing a benchmark for future construction activities on site as well as other sister sites. MECHANICAL SUPERINTENDENT Managed 3 maintenance engineers, 2 mechanical supervisors and approximately 40 indirect reports. Challenged to transition fairly reactive organization into a cohesive, proactive unit; formed, trained and led new planning and scheduling group composed of 1 superintendent, 3 planners and 1 full-time scheduler. continued ... MAINTENANCE MANAGER Managed 4 maintenance engineers, 3 maintenance superintendents, 1 project-engineering manager and 2 secretaries as direct reports, and approximately 120 indirect reports responsible for maintenance of approximately $400MM in fixed assets. Executed daily management oversight and administration of several preventive and predictive maintenance programs, a project-engineering group, an $11MM maintenance budget and an $8MM capital budget. Executed several continuous improvement initiatives and served as a team member on 2 additional projects. Implemented Risk Based Inspection program to drive turnaround costs down. Slashed maintenance repair costs approximately $3MM per year over 2-year period. Assigned to an international maintenance benchmarking team designed to share best practices. Several practices developed year-over-year were implemented in European, Puerto Rico, and South American sites. Additionally, assigned to a NAFTA Center of Excellence Team. Directed and implemented a new Mechanical Integrity program as part of the OSHA 1910 Mechanical Integrity Law for the site; program was audited by an outside contractor and was accepted as best in class. MAINTENANCE & ENGINEERING MANAGER Managed 14 direct and approximately 150+ indirect reports. Individually accountable for railroad maintenance, ditch maintenance, plant roads, and site’s painting programs. Actively involved in HAZOPs as needed as the maintenance representative. -- Continued to analyze and identify ways to drive maintenance and engineering costs down. -- Primarily responsible for a $2MM, fast-track project successfully implemented and started up on schedule. Additional Major Accomplishments: Slashed maintenance costs from $11MM annually in 2000 to a budgeted $7MM in 2004 through continuous improvement programs and strengthened communications with all levels of personnel on site. Instituted monthly meetings with process owners to discuss maintenance costs, opportunities for cost savings, and maintenance KPIs to ensure maintenance budget was on track. Recognized as maintenance subject-matter expert in HAZOPs. Mastered SAP (computerized maintenance management program). Corporate Awards: Recipient of 2 Presidential Commendation Awards. 14 consecutive years of 10-20% annual salary bonus incentives. Wellman, Inc, Bay St Louis, MS • 2005 to Present ( PET Resin Manufacturing) UTILITY MAINTENANCE ENGINEER Works with the utility crew on day to day problems associated with the utility area. Was assigned to several additional capital and expense projects to implement because the engineering department was tied up with a major expansion. One of the projects was to replace a large hot oil heater in the utility area that had some major damage to it shortly after going to work at the site. This project was completed with in its $1.5MM budget and on time for the new expansion start up. Was also actively involved in the Hurricane Katrina recovery work in the utility area. This was a major challenge as the storm brought 5-6 feet of water over the entire site. Communication to the rest of the area was severally hampered but I was able to contact and schedule several vendor techs in to help with the damage assessment and the necessary repairs of critical equipment needed to start up the utility area. To get this area up I worked 12 hours a day 6-7 days a week for approximately 9 weeks. There was a lot of pressure to get the utility area up as soon as possible before the rest of the site could begin their start up. I continue to be asked to help on several different projects out side of my department because of my past work experiences. I am a very self directed maintenance and project knowledgeable/experienced engineer that would be an asset to your organization.
