Interim Controller, consultant Dallas, TX 01/2005 to Present (Duplium Manufacturing/1st Global Inc./The Staubach Company) As a consultant, used my expertise to fill the role of interim controller. My duties included month end close, review current FASB’s and prepared internal memos on how the Accounting Policy and Procedures should change, improving the accounting process, implementation of FIN 46R and FIN 123R, improved the current year audit process and reduces the audit time by almost 50%, creating reports, improving cash flow reports, preparing 1099 from 5 separate data bases to CPA’s, and coordinate the implementing Great Plains (9.1). In addition, prepared checklist and time lines for various tax reports and critical deadlines for the CFO. Supervised from 5 to 9 staff. BSM Financial, Addison, TX 03/2003 to 01/2005 (Mortgage broker-LLC) (Change in management) As Controller, interacted with all levels of management. Duties included: supervising the accounting department as well as customer service department. Accomplishments: established a chart of accounts, implemented new accounting software as well as trained the staff on using the software. Automated various accounting processes to improve the efficiency of the department; established a cash forecasting model and reporting (daily) for upper management as well as various tax reporting for the various companies; responsible for the yearly external audit as well as the HUD audit. Diversified Corporate Resources, Dallas, TX 12/1999 to 03/2003 (Employment -Public) (Company lay-off) As Director of External Reporting, interacted with upper management as well as staff managers. Duties included: automating the closing process, re-engineering the budgeting process, maintaining the budget, providing various management reports, preparation of the public reports for the SEC, interfaced with our lending institution, external auditors as well as any taxing authorities and cash management. Responsibilities included supervising the Accounts Receivable and Credit and Collections Departments as well as preparing monthly closing and consolidating entries. Customer credit review and recommendations for credit are communicated to operations managers. Accomplishments include automating the daily cash reconciliation and automating the consolidations of seven operating companies. Atrium Companies, Dallas, TX 08/1996 to 11/1999 (Manufacturing -LLC) (Plant relocated to Greenville) Accounting Manager/Cost Accountant, worked closely with managers in manufacturing and corporate accounting. Duties included establishing and implementing internal procedures, establishing a standard cost system, setting standards for material, labor and overhead (rate and quantity), revised bills of material and the related labor routings. In short was responsible for all phases of creating and implementing a standard cost system in a MRP environment. In addition, was responsible for the accurate costing of the physical inventory. Established a system of cycle counting, rather than taking quarterly physical inventories. Performed budget vs. Actual P/L review for management discussions. Took on special projects in Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets and accrual review. Hitachi Computer Products, Norman, OK 02/1990 to 07/1996 (Manufacturing -Public) (Relocated to Dallas) Senior Cost Accountant, work closely with manufacturing managers and line supervisors in cost reduction and various analyses to identify management issues. Established the current Cost Accounting system and Project Management system. Responsible for physical inventory of finished goods, work in process, and inventory. In addition, improved physical inventory through the implementation of cycle counting. Other responsibilities include overall accuracy of the cost accounting system; work in process, purchase price variances, all various analysis, and product profitability with identification of management concerns. Mangum Manufacturing Company, Dallas, TX 06/1987 to 01/1990 (Manufacturing -Public) (Relocated to OKC) Accounting Manager, worked closely with corporate president and controller prepared monthly closing entries and the revision of the cost system. Completely revised the bill of material and bill of labor. Prior to the revision, Mangum had a $500,000 physical inventory loss; after the revision, the physical inventory showed a $70,000 gain. In addition, changed the method of costing inventory, reducing time for results from two months to two weeks. Introduced the “just in time” concept which lowered work-in-process from 10% to 3% of inventory. Also revised the internal control procedures to eliminate internal audit discrepancies. In addition, was chairman of the “LAN” system installation committee. Other responsibilities included monthly profit and loss statement, balance sheet, labor cost analysis, accrual expense vs. budget, written analysis of variances. Supervised a staff of six.
