CollapseDescription

My career has been split between working for regulatory agencies (approximately 8 years) and working for consulting engineering companies (approximately 15 years). My work experience includes working on wastewater pollution, air pollution, groundwater pollution and subsurface soil pollution. I have been involved in both the initial investigation as well as the remediation aspects of all projects. In addition, I have conducted a fair (over 200) Phase I environmental site assessments of commercial property. I have prepared and signed numerous environmental permits including air permits, stormwater pollution prevention permits and industrial wastewater discharge permits.

CollapseResponsibilities

I usually oversee contractors as they install groundwater monitoring wells and soil borings around property. The borings and groundwater wells are used to collect samples (water or soil) of the the subsurface and are used to characterize the subsurface pollution and is instrumental in determining the type of remediation process to follow. In addition to guiding the contractors as they construct the soil borings/groundwater wells I take extensive notes of the subsurface soils and groundwater quality. I used my notes to prepare reports of my findings and to come up with judgements and conclusions on the best way to manage the site(s). Recently, I was given responsibility to handle the site inspection of 13 sites in the San Diego County area. I was given three days to visit the sites, collect photographs of the buildings and surrounding areas and interview relevant personnel. I spent a total of seven days in California-I completed the work for the 13 properties as well as surveying two additional properties one located near the California/Mexico border (San Ysidros) and one located halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco (Paso Robles). This project showed my ability to work efficiently, independently and without a break.
