it used to mean that you did more than type - it meant that your grammar was better than your bosses. it used mean that you did more than tend the files - it meant you knew every person those files represented. it meant you were invested enough in your job to treat the office budget like your own, and not call the repair guy because a toner needed changing, and you knew who delivered the best pastrami on rye in town. it used to mean that when the boss's kid fell out of a tree, they could trust you to handle things in their absence.
