PACU Nurse March, 2019 - current In an Ambulatory setting, utilized clinical skills in caring for patients receiving various types of surgeries During the Pre-surgery phase: Greet and receive patients in the family waiting room, direct them to their assigned bay, review medical, surgical history and all pertinent information needed for the surgery, obtain consent, vital signs, start IV access, administer pre-surgery medication if needed, review discharge instructions at this time, prior to patient receiving anesthesia. Recovery phase: Receive patient immediately after surgery, monitor vital signs until stable, assess pain according to pain scale, check surgery site as needed, follow any orders given by physician, offer some nourishment, repeat discharge instructions to patient and family member, prior to discharge, provide all necessary written instructions pertaining to the surgery, discontinue IV fluids when patient is stable, assist patient prior to standing, if needed, offer wheel chair, follow facility's policy for discharge.
