COVER LETTER: Dear Hiring Manager, I am a recent graduate from the University of Central Missouri (UCM) with a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology and a Minor in Manufacturing. My interest in machinery started early in life from watching my Father and Grandfather fix vehicles, electrical systems, plumbing, and other systems. When I reached High School, I studied advanced mathematics and Automotive Technology in order to become a mechanic. I have a passion for taking something that does not work and fixing it, I enjoy studying machines and solving the problem in the same way as putting an elaborate puzzle together. As High School came to an end, I became interested in the design and means of production for these machines, constantly considering ways in which the engineers could improve them - that is when I began my studies at UCM. At UCM, I participated in many diverse projects that required me to work in teams and overcome various obstacles similar to those we may meet in industry. One project is the NASA human rover competition in which UCM designed two unique rovers to be powered only by two drivers, fold into a 5'x5'x5' box, and drive the fastest over various terrain. There were many considerations in the making of these rovers including the material used, wheel design, steering and suspension, and body design. As part of the competition we also completed a full project report on the schedule, scope, process, materials, budget, and complete set of drawings for each rover. In result, one rover won first place in the drive train challenge and they took fourth and sixth place in speed. My education and these projects opened my mind to the various applications of my education and have since inspired me to search for a company that allows for diverse projects, teams, processes, and materials to work with. In my Internship at Duke Manufacturing, I worked in a team of engineers to design and modify refrigeration, food serving, and food preparation units to meet the needs and requirements of the customer as well as the company standards. I would modify standard units to meet these needs using Solidworks (2016) software, as well as Auto CAD, EPDM Vault, and Epicor. Providing a quality product requires constant communication between management, engineers, and the manufacturing floor because of this, I began my internship working on the fabrication line and was trained to operate each machine before participating on design projects. I look forward to an opportunity to meet and further discuss my skills, projects, and experiences and can be reached by phone at (573) 645-9806 or by email at mls85870@ucmo.edu. I believe I would be an enthusiastic and essential addition to your team. Sincerely, Mackenzie Lewin
