WORK EXPERIENCE SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENTS Summary Of Experience: TOTAL 40 YEARS * Managing Director, Country Manager, Project Manager, Project Engineer, for General Signal-Nelson Electric Middle-East Operations, Westinghouse Electric, Fluor Engineers, SIP Parsons, Shell Engineering etc. Worked in progressively Senior level diversified multi-disciplinary management and engineering assignments from 1973 to 1987. High level of expertise in strategic planning, management & control of large projects in the range of $ 100 million to $ 1 billion plus. Undertook successful contract negotiations with USA, European and Japanese companies. Effectively utilized high level of leadership qualities and interpersonal skills with emphasis on consensus building and team work. Worked in various stages of project development from inception to commissioning. Experience portfolio includes extensive work at various design, engineering, project coordination and management levels in USA, Middle East and Pakistan. After a successful professional career in the USA at progressively senior management and engineering positions for 14 years moved to Pakistan in 1987 as Country Manager for Westinghouse Electric on a two (2) year assignment. Also set up new Engineering IT services and Consultancy companies. * As Managing Director CGS (Pvt.) Limited, Executive Director PME Pakistan, and PMEI USA and EMBA Corporation USA from 1987 to 1999 achieved success and demonstrated capability in set-up of joint ventures and operations of competitive and successful engineering services and technology management & marketing organizations in the USA and Pakistan. Served as Managing Director/Chief Executive of regional offices of Multinationals and also of successful international start-ups and local companies in Pakistan. This challenge required forceful leadership, entrepreneurial capabilities along with extensive business development and marketing efforts. In a short span lead the companies to profitable operations and established them as recognized leaders in their field. Launched Compaq Computers, and Emerson Power support products successfully. The product line was enhanced to include Dell Computers, IBM Enterprise Solutions Oracle ERP Solutions and many other It services and products. Opted for the challenging assignment of Public Sector Utility Management in 2000. * Chief Executive of Pakistan Electric Power Company - PEPCO from January 2000 to January 2002, a Government of Pakistan (GOP) MP-I Top Executive level assignment, responsible for the management of the Reform & Restructuring program of the Pakistan Power Sector under a World Bank / ADB program. Focus of the program was to unbundle WAPDA's power wing consisting of 130,000 employees, and revenues of about US$ 8 billion, into 12 autonomous corporate entities and to move them thru a managed transition to corporate, commercial and profitable operations. Provided leadership and created momentum in a short span of 6 months for the PEPCO objectives and launched initiatives for change management thru induction of a corporate & commercial culture in the PEPCO companies. Significant progress in the 2 year assignment was achieved in meeting the objectives of the Reform Program as also recognized by the World Bank. Introduced regulatory enactment framework, commercial audit, financial planning, and licensing and tariff regimes in the 12 companies. Business Process Re-Engineering applied for induction of sound business practices, financial modeling and planning, customer oriented marketing, quality services & procedures. Prepared strategic plans and launched Enterprise wide IT infrastructure for on-line MIS, automated utility bill collection and customer care services. * Managing Director of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited - SSGC from October 2002 to September 2007, a public gas utility with revenues of US$ 1.5 billion and over 6000 employees base, from October 2002 to September 2007. On joining SSGC in October 2002, took several new and bold initiatives, most notably the preparation of a 5 year Natural Gas Development Plan and also a 25 year National Energy Plan, for ensuring safety, security and sustainable energy supplies to the country. Effectively spearheaded a corporate transformation process based on technology empowered change, with focus on corporate governance, industry best practices, and a customer centric culture based on "Service with a smile". In an span of 3 years SSGC achieved the coveted status of the most I.T enabled company and Pakistan's best public sector corporation. Put the company on a firm development and expansion track under a comprehensive 5 years rolling business plan, increasing the development project capex from Rs. 2 billion to Rs. 10 billion and achieved multifold improvements in KPIs. For the 1st time in its history SSGC was awarded the ICAP/ICMAP Best Corporate Reports award for its Golden Jubilee Annual Report, being ranked first in the Public Sector. * Managing Director of Pakistan Electric Power Company - PEPCO from September 2007 to May 2008, a GOP Company set up for undertaking the reform & restructuring of Pakistan's power sector and preparing the utility companies for corporate and commercial operations in a competitive environment. Effectively undertook the bifurcation, restructuring and corporate transformation of former Power Wing of WAPDA, comprising of fourteen Corporate Entities including nine Distribution Companies, four Generation Companies and one National Transmission and Dispatch Company with a total manpower strength of 134,000 and revenues exceeding US$ 5 billion. Achieved the restructuring thru a focused and participatory strategy in a span of 6 months, previously considered impossible for 10 years. Prepared a robust Crises Management and Short Term Plan to bridge the power gap thru a combination of public and private sector projects. Set-up systems and processes for energy management, conservation and integrated energy planning based on robust demand side projections. * As CEO of EMR-Consult from June 2008 - June 2014, have undertaken several high level advisory and consultancy assignments in the Energy Sector. Was appointed Team Leader of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), US $ three billion Power Sector Debt Resolution Plan (PSDRP). Have provided strategic advice to several National & International Energy Companies on Oil/Gas, LPG/LNG and pipeline projects. Was the Senior Partner for the KPLC- Kenya Power and Lighting Company, ICT systems review and advisory services consultancy. The subject Advisory Services Contract was awarded thru an open international bidding process. Provided local and overseas companies Advisory services and Hi level expertise on a 700 MW Hydel Power Project and Thar Coal Resources Integrated Development project for FFC. Provided project consultancy services for a FSRU base LNG import project for two years to the PGPL Consortium comprising of Gunvor[Swiss} FFC and PGPL under a project development and Pre -feasibility contract. Provided Owners Engineers Services to URS, USA for the 404MW CCGT Power Project at UCH, Pakistan. Over the past several years have been a leading advocate and recognized global energy expert for the Energy Sector and utilization of indigenous resources of hydel, clean coal and alternate energy to overcome the Energy Gap in developing countries.
