CollapseDescription

Accomplishments * New Process Innovation to hardware manufacturer (Southco): Created and coached engineers on a process modification that resulted in a dramatic decrease in rejection rate. The change produced much stronger press-in studs and hinges, and rejections were eliminated. * Cost Reduction: Reduced 40-60% cost on large enclosure assemblies by focusing on modifications to raw materials, fabrication processes, and purchased components. * Reverse Engineering: Reverse engineered various assemblies and components with little to no data, to a full 3D model with drawings and Bill of Material (BOM). Older legacy products were then easier to edit and maintain by the addition of lean manufacturing and vendor purchased technologies. * Initiated Standard Turret Punch Loads: By Customer and/or Product specific because punch department was bottleneck. Reduced tooling cost by 20% and machine setup time by 40%. * Improved Material Handling: Designed carts, containers, pallets and packaging to protect small and large components from in-transit damage to internal departments, vendors or customers. Saved valuable resources by avoiding rework or replacement of damaged products. * Developed Tooling Design: Saved $6,000 for new and existing tool modifications in turret punch by creating special extrusion tools for hardware insertion machine, not available on the market, used for placing extrusions next to and on formed features. * Powder Coat Paint Line: Introduced and implemented reusable silicone masking materials for protecting threads from paint. Eliminated the tedious baked-on masking tape and adhesive removal process, resulting in 30% time and labor savings for the company.
