Description
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS * Over 4 years of work experience in Canada and internationally as physician and research assistant in multiple areas such as molecular and cellular mechanisms, genetic control of cell growth and differentiation, study the pathogenesis of cholangiocarcinoma at the cellular level. * 72 weeks of clinical rotation in hospitals in Chicago Illinois * Worked in various areas Internal medicine, family, pediatrics, surgery, cardiology, and obstetrics gynecology. Sports medicine Research Student: * Our clinical research included molecular and cellular mechanisms and genetic control of cell growth and differentiation. * We researched using rats as subjects to study the pathogenesis of cholangiocarcinoma at the cellular level our interest focused on understanding, treatment and prevention of the cancer. * Our research also focused on discovering and developing innovative peptide and small molecule therapeutics against cancer. Research Assistant: * Researched with the use of Mycobacterium marinum to study the pathogenesis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis at the cellular level. * Our interest focused on SapM: an acid phosphatase secreted by M. tuberculosis and virulence factor. * Since these two organisms are genetically close pathogens it was necessary to confirm the secretion of SapM by M. marinum and compare its regulation to that from M. tuberculosis in order to validate the use of M. marinum to study the disease. * We were able to show that M. marinum does indeed secrete SapM, and just as in M. tuberculosis the secretion of SapM by M. marinum is enhanced under acidic conditions.
