COVER LETTER: A desire to positively impact the lives of others while being intellectually engaged and constantly challenged led me into medicine. Those same goals, combined with insights gained through hands-on experiences of my medical school training, led me to pursue a career in general surgery. The patients I encountered have given me insights into the problems I will treat, and the physicians with whom I have worked have shown me the kind of doctor I will strive to be. I started to practice surgery in Suez Canal Authority Hospital in 2006 when I received the first chance to be a surgeon. During my general surgery rotation, I learned that preoperative and postoperative patient management is crucial to a successful outcome for the surgical patient. I developed a new understanding and appreciation of the link between the two. My passion for surgery only grew from there. I moved for to be enrolled in master program in the university hospital that fulfills me to be a senior registrar and to be licensed from the Egyptian medical syndicate as a specialist of general surgery. In year one of my medical school I took my first step to understand the fundamentals of clinical research and how to plan a study, I was enrolled in a study concerning with the prevalence and incidence of Hypertension in a certain population and since then I decided to be a participant in a yearly project held in our school. In the year 2011 I was fulfilled to be given the masters degree in general surgery after finishing my research that was a descriptive study to evaluate gallbladder stones of post-cholecystectomy patients considering the ultrastructure of gallstones, clinical picture of the patients and histopathological findings in gallbladder wall, in General Surgery Department of Suez Canal University Hospital and in Suez Canal Authority Hospital at Ismailia. Last month I attended an Introduction to Clinical Research course held in King Saud Bin Abdelaziz University for Health Science Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia I am well liked by my patients and peers and have the ability to earn their trust and confidence. I am empathetic and work well with people, a team atmosphere has always been my preferred environment. I am intelligent, serious, and very capable, I have never been afraid of hard work and enjoy a challenge. While I am focused and goal directed, I also have an open mind and enjoy the learning process. My short term goal is to find a fellowship program, which will provide me with a strong foundation in Clinical Research that is team oriented, will challenge me to learn, and will provide me the skills necessary to become an outstanding physician. It must be a program that will help me continue to develop as both a surgeon and researcher.
