CollapseDescription

I am writing to express my interest in the radiology position that you have at your hospital. I enclose a copy of my current CV but below is a brief career summary and a description of my present post. I graduated from the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine in London in 1990. I then completed my post registration year and proceeded to obtain my MRCP before embarking on Radiology training, based at Northwick Park and St Marks Hospital Trust, commencing in 1994. Northwick Park is a busy associated District General Hospital with close links to St Mary’s and Imperial College Medical Schools and is part of the London Radiology Training scheme. I gained the FRCR in 1997 and completed my training in 1999. I then spent two years in Perth, Western Australia, initially on an Interventional Radiology Fellowship then as a Registrar, which I completed in Dec 2000. I subsequently returned to the UK and was appointed as a full-time Consultant Radiologist at Northwick Park in March 2001. There are ten whole time equivalent Consultant Radiologists and fourteen Specialist Registrars in Radiology at Northwick Park. I worked eleven sessions a week at NPH, seven of which were fixed – five sessions were spent in Intervention and the remainder divided between MRI, CT and ultrasound. There were two Interventional Radiologists, and together we performed all of the intervention for the Trust. Approximately half of the interventional workload was in peripheral vascular intervention, including arterial and venous angioplasty and stenting. The remainder of the work was in Hepatobiliary, Renal and Mesenteric intervention. We also established an active aortic stenting program. I was appointed Head of Training at Northwick Park and St Marks for the London Training scheme in 2005 and was actively involved in training at NPH. I am an Honorary Lecturer at Imperial College in London and had been proposed for a similar position at Hope Medical School in Manchester prior to leaving the UK. I was nominated for and awarded an NHS Champion Merit award by a major British newspaper, the Evening Standard, in 2004. I subsequently joined Hamilton General Hospital as an Associate Interventional Radiologist and Lecturer at McMaster University in February 2007. There are three McMaster hospitals in Hamilton, Ontario and the General represents the primary site for Trauma, Neurosurgery and Vascular Surgery in the city. I worked as part of a team of three Interventional Radiologists and the majority of our work was in arterial vascular interventions, including peripheral and renal/mesenteric arterial angioplasty and stenting and vascular embolisation in both trauma and elective settings. I also participated in the Neuro IR call, reading and interpreting MRI and CT Neurosurgical studies and performing diagnostic four/six vessel angiograms for the neurosurgery service. I subsequently joined the faculty at Geisinger Health System in Pennsylvania as an Associate Professor in Interventional Radiology in February 2010 and was there until April 2014. Geisinger Health System is a progressive, not for profit healthcare system based in the north-eastern corner of the state. There are three major Geisinger hospitals based in Danville (GMC), Wilkes Barre (GWV) and Scranton (GCMC). Geisinger Wyoming Valley is a 650 bed acute Trauma level I hospital located in the north-eastern part of the state. For the majority of the first year I was single-handed at the Wyoming Valley site, performing all of the IR in the hospital and on call every weeknight at GWV and every third weekend at GMC. I performed the whole gamut of Interventional Radiology procedures at GWV but I was especially involved with Oncological and Musculoskeletal interventions including tumor ablation procedures, embolisation and kyphoplasty. I am currently a Body Imaging Fellow at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. I completed the USMLE exams in 2011 and I was certified by the ABR in May 2014. I can be reached during working hours on my mobile 001 570 594 3778, on my home no. 001 267 314 5142 or via the web at paulcalgibson@yahoo.com. Yours sincerely Paul Gibson MD MB BS MRCP FRCR DABR
