February , 2015 Please consider my application for the position of Academic counselor and youth employment coach. I have worked with all ages from pre-school up through college. My practice teaching for my BA in Literature was at Hanover High School while I was the resident tutor for the “A Better Chance” program at Dartmouth. My responsibilities as a tutor involved working with urban students who needed to develop academic skills prior to beginning college. Following that, I worked at a day care center as an assistant to the teacher. My next job prior to graduate school was at Nashua High School with developmentally delayed students. The rest of my work history is on my resume which is part of this application. Unlike some teachers who have a straight trajectory of one success after another, there have been struggles and challenges. Because I am dyslexic, I strongly empathized with students who had learning disabilities. It made me a better teacher and I fully understand the emotional struggle that accompanies dealing with an invisible disability. My most creative years were as the reading specialist at the FW Parker School where I designed the orientation and study skills program for all incoming students as well as additional support for LD students. After I retired from the Parker School, I learned how to run two websites on-line art gallery called Gidgeworld and my own company, CognitiveYoga. I have been offering tutorials through Wyzant and published a book for teachers Cognitive Yoga published through Amazon on January 5th 2014. Recent training includes the 6seconds educator and coach certification which allows me to assess the Emotional competencies of both adults and youth. My company offers professional development to clients with an emphasis on social emotional learning.
