Bilingual in English and Spanish with excellent communication skills * 26 years as a Corrections Officer, 12 of those years as a Prison Investigator, with extensive knowledge / training involving Gangs RECOGNIZED QUALIFICATIONS: Investigator / Correctional Officer * Ensure security of correctional facility, community and staff by observing/supervising inmates and performing perimeter checks of surrounding facility grounds * Enforce rules and regulations at both State and Federal levels and ensure NRS'/NAC's are followed * Perform head counts at designated times to ensure all inmates are safely accounted for in general population units, and lock down unit * Perform transport and escort inmates to and from appointments within and outside of facility. Ensure that all safety measures are taken to eliminate threat to inmate, staff and public while on transports including inspecting transportation vehicle and inmate upon departure of and return to facilities * Search inmates person and property to prevent contraband from being introduced, stored, or exchanged within facilities * Prepare reports and provide information to relevant staff upon becoming aware of inmate disturbances, rule violations, unusual occurrences, or investigative findings * Use of proper force depending on incidents * Use department specific computer software (NOTIS) for retrieval and recording of inmate information and report writing * Surveillance by phone, incoming / outgoing mail, and visual * Gang identification through interviews, inspection of tattoo's, art work, and photographs * Interview / Interrogations and administered Miranda rights when appropriate * Relate information to Inspector General and Attorney General relating felonious crimes * Cooperation with outside agencies such as but not limited to Clark County, Washoe County, Carson City County, FBI, DEA, IRS, and ICE * Conduct random testing on inmates for narcotics * Documentation and safely securing crime scene and securing evidence according to administrative regulations * Determinations of degrees of a crime - such as assault and battery, sexual assault, extortion, and income tax fraud * Carefully and Legal contact with confidential informants * Conducting searches of inmates cells with the assistance of narcotic detection K-9's * Operated phone monitoring system * Investigate the distribution of monies to different inmates and their families through J-Pay for narcotics payments * Attended PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) on 2 different occasions mandated by the Federal Government * Certified with CPR / First Aid on a yearly basis * Certified as the only hostage negotiator for the State of Nevada Department of Corrections
