By applying Lean/JIT applications and aligning team skills and process capacity we were able to schedule the work center load to meet master production schedule. Testing incoming parts to qualify for nonconforming parts contamination with a pull test for no connects for solder. This saved the parent company money to the tune of $150,000 dollars plus the production cost. The lost yield produced because all the parts would have to be scrapped. The team could get yields of 97% then ramp the production up to three shifts with four technicians per shift. Production per day went up to 5,000 units weekly with 97% functional. This could only happen with a highly cross-trained team with the skills to run all the processes in the production line.
