RssSenior Cell Culture Scientist- CSO

Julie Bick has been associated with the pharmaceutical industry for 12 of her 17 year career in the life science field, working with two of the leading global drug development companies. Julie has developed a wide range of skills while researching diverse areas of biochemistry and cell biology, from antibody and protein engineering to cell culture optimization and assay development. These efforts have been supported by her expertise in molecular biology and protein engineering techniques, and have resulted in multiple publications and the awarding of international patents for novel chimeric proteins with therapeutic applications, and a unique assay platform for drug screening. With a working knowledge of GMP, GLP and GDP requirements, Julie’s inclusive work experience encompasses many areas of the pharmaceutical industry from R&D, to process development and production. It was Julie’s expertise in the optimization of cell culture strategies for bio-therapeutic production that resulted in her becoming a founding member of a start-up biotechnology company, Cellexus Biosystems LLC, specializing in the development of single-use cell culture systems for cGMP-compliant procedures. As CSO of this company, Julie’s responsibilities included the engineering of the technology platform and ensuring full compliance with FDA-guidelines for medical device construction, evaluation and performance. In addition, Julie was responsible for the presentation of technical data at conferences, as well as providing comprehensive client support and training. Following the sale of Cellexus Biosystems, Julie took these system technology skills to Lampire Biological Labs, where she helped in the development of a novel ‘breathable’ cell culture bag, for small scale cell culture, harvest and cryo-storage. Julie credits her personal success in the industry to remaining current with innovation and technologies, and in displaying a commitment to good science and strong team performance. Julie has a joint B.Sc. Medicinal Biochemistry and Genetics from the University of Nottingham, UK and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Southampton. UK.
