CAD DESIGN SERVICES, INC. – CDS BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER 2010 to 2011 An Electronic Design Automation Software Company, consulted to its Founder, managing Business Development and Operations. • Reorganized Product and Marketing Data of EDA chip packaging / PCB design software based on Auto CAD. • Developed new website from 37 pages to over 340 to better present the products available to design engineers and customers. • Organized, managed, attended 7 trade shows, assisted Founder, CEO and CTO in preparation of white papers, training sessions, presentations, software demonstrations to key accounts and new prospective custom software developments. • Unfortunately, the Founder passed on. NANO COATING SYSTEMS, LLC PROGRAM MANAGEMENT – INVESTOR & INVESTOR SEARCH 2005 to 2007 A start up company developing equipment for the beverage and food industry to coat a thin glass barrier in a vacuum chamber and plasma inside Pet, PP bottles and food containers to increase product shelf life, eliminate plastic taint and plastic chemistry consumption. • Managed the Alpha tool, implemented and maintained daily schedule and reports, initial set up and installation of load lock and vacuum chamber, design, purchase and installation of continuous loop PET bottle air conveyor, electrical connectivity, water chiller cooling system, vacuum pumps, air system, process gas system connections, rotary gas distribution manifolds and seals, RF power supplies, RF match boxes, equipment control system, display panel, process software and hardware development. • Managed customer process and coating test program and sample demonstrations runs together with PhD’s. • Guided engineering in 20K Bottle per hour production tool design, new vacuum chamber, gear drive train and maintainability issues and interfaced with German company Krones AG, the manufacturer of vacuum load locks built under license from them. • Redesigned new vacuum chamber, reducing volume capacity by 60 % to save in vacuum pump equipment operating costs. ADTC SYSTEMS, INC. OPERATIONS MANAGER 2003 to 2008 Manufacturer of commercial and military Flight Training Simulator Heads up Display Monitors. • Designed and built Simulator Monitor Display products for Boeing 737, 747, 767, 777, Airbus 320, Embraer ERJ/167/170. • Developed method to dice LCD Displays to resize and seal cut end for form fit and function to look just like the real flight hardware, at a much reduced cost to the Airlines, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Army, Coast Guard and FAA. • Designed and built over 300 ea. high resolution LCD - FTD Simulator Monitors with high brightness LED back light. Forbes 2010 #212 Largest American Private Company • As the first Caucasian and No. 23 employee hired, converted a twelve year old struggling company with $7.2M annual sales to a world class lean operation by growing manufacturing, assembly of SMT components and test capacity from 5,000 to 500,000 parts placements per hour, while achieving a 99.8% production yield. • Ma Laboratories, Inc. achieved to be Silicon Valley’s fastest growing privately owned company in 1993 and its largest yearly dollar revenue private company in 1994. • Evaluated, qualified and purchased over $20M of PCB assembly, test and facility equipment and set up all process, test procedures and documentation control for an extremely lean manufacturing operation. • Very instrumental, as the owner’s confidant and right hand man, over a six year span, skillfully expanded company from 7,500 to 15,000, to 32,000 and to 118,000 sq. ft. (Building formerly occupied by Sierra Semiconductor). • Purchased 118,000 sq. ft. building for $76.00 per sq. ft. when $96.00 was asked for, a substantial saving (21 %) to the owner. • Installed TI’s in 5 weeks, moved whole company in 22 hours and was fully operational with all 11 PCB assembly lines, 320 computers and phones, all warehoused inventory and operations support equipment. • Issued over 300 purchase orders every year for all manufacturing, facility, inventory, warehouse, order processing and shipping equipment / facility / process improvement requirements planned, designed, installed and made operational. • On a most productive day and in 17.5 hours, assembled 63,000 memory modules, normally processing 40K to 50K a day. • Co-Invented and obtained US Patent # 5651176 for a tray feeder apparatus adapted to KME (Panasonic Factory Automation) SMT chip shooter increasing productivity by 60%, reducing assembly time and costs, eliminating daily memory price fluctuation losses through ability to process all parts purchased, received, sold and shipped the same day. • Equipped facility with special docks, for on site UPS aircraft igloo loading (5 in each UPS trailer), extending shipping time cut off by 35 minutes, resulting in 22% $ volume more sales and packages shipped each day. • Organized Marketing Effort, attended and managed Comdex and CeBIT (Hannover, DE) trade shows resulting in $$$$$ growth. • Instrumental in help growing company to $860M in 1999 and 2000 in a declining component price market (2010 revenue $2.1B). • Through efficient and lean layout of inventory flow, receiving and replenishing 3 times a day, warehousing, parts pulling, packing and shipping, enabled a complete inventory turn to a record low of 1.8 days. • As a benefit, UPS treated my wife and I (behalf of the owner) to attend the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympic Games for ten days. • Advised Ma Labs owner to stop royalty payments for ninth memory chip patent to Wang Labs, which then sued. After providing prior art to the court, it then dismissed the law suit and invalidated Wang Labs patent, resulting in an estimated savings of $3M to Ma Labs, after deducting lawyer fees. A major Japanese memory module manufacturer lost the same case 2 years earlier. • Negotiated and settled a dispute out of court with a vendor that fraudulently patented a product designed for Ma Labs, then distributed without permission, resulting him in signing over the IP, the patent and selling $5M parts at half price of his cost. • In a law suit, negotiated and settled a dispute out of court with a vendor that fraudulently obtained a patent for a product he designed for Ma Labs, then manufactured and distributed it without permission. Advised the owner not to pursue this venture. • On behalf of Ma Laboratories, Inc.’s owner, implemented start up of Super Light Wave, Corp. to manufacture DWDM filters utilized in fiber optical communication equipment. Built 10 class clean rooms, installed redundant process systems, a Blanchard grinder, lapping, polishing, Multi Street dicing, and ultrasonic cleaning equipment. Evaluated and selected equipment, wrote tough specifications to optimize planned business with the objection to be able to make a profit, purchased six Veeco Spector Ion Beam Deposition Systems and one Test/Sorting/Tool. Managed this $10M venture to full operational status. • Co-Invented US Patent # 6547939 for adjustable shadow mask apparatus to improve uniformity of DWDM film deposition.
